In Brihadaranyaka Upanishad, Dhata is invoked at every yajna as the witness who confirms the fruit-bearing.

About Dhata
Dhata, the Aditya of Shravana, is the supporter and establisher, from a root meaning to place or to hold. In the Vedic world he is a creator who sets things in order and keeps them steady, and he is often named beside his counterpart Vidhata. The pairing runs through later texts: Dhata is the one who places each result where it belongs, while Vidhata ordains the pattern in advance. Together they express the idea that creation is both planned and faithfully carried out.
The quality of light linked to Dhata is a stabilising one, compared to the sunshine that holds crops upright against the monsoon winds of his month. That picture matches his role as a giver of steadiness and as a guardian of orderly progeny, and he is invoked in traditional prayers for the birth of children. The name Dhata also appears among the many epithets recited in the Vishnu Sahasranama, which is why devotional practice in Shravana often combines his remembrance with that hymn.
In the karmic reading found in later literature, Dhata is the dispenser who delivers the fruits of past action at the proper moment, but that is a layered interpretation added over the older Vedic figure of a creator and sustainer. Lists of the twelve Adityas are not uniform, and a few texts replace or reorder these names, so his position as seventh is not universal. Temples associating him with the sun are few, and the Unao shrine in Madhya Pradesh is one traditionally named.
