About Jayanti
Jayanti is placed in the Sylhet region of Bangladesh, at a village called Baurbhag and it is said to be where the left thigh of Sati fell. The goddess is Jayanti and the Bhairava is Kramadishwar. In some Indian traditions a Jayanti peeth is also claimed in the Jaintia hills of Meghalaya, so there are competing identifications, and the sources do not settle which is meant.
The name Jayanti is a feminine form that suggests victory, and the goddess is understood as the victorious Mother. The Sylhet area has a long history as a meeting place of Bengali and Assamese cultures, with temples, shrines and tea estates, and it is held in affection by Hindus of the Bengal region across the world. The site is treated with respect, as a part of the shared heritage of devotees in the wider subcontinent and without any political comment.
The Bangladesh peeths are well represented in the Tantra Chudamani and Pithanirnaya lists, where Bengal as a whole was a heartland of Shakta practice. The Daksha yajna story, with the division of Sati's body by Vishnu's discus, is the same wherever the peeth is placed. If you plan any visit or study, local custodians and community groups can provide up to date and reliable information, which is not attempted here.
